We had a few guesses and all were a bit light. Janet came the closest guessing 73 pounds! She was a mere 77 pounds short of our total! We picked
150+ pounds of apples!! Yes people, 150 pounds of apples that's only 50 pounds each. I peeled and sliced for about 3 hours last night for my apple pies, crisps or cobblers and we will be at Stephanie's house tomorrow making applesauce, the rest will be stored for eating.

I would imagine that you aren't making a hundred pies/crips/cobblers right now. So how are you storing the sliced apples to use later?
PS-I am just waiting for Jen to get me the apple butter recipe and then I will forward it on to you.
I peeled and sliced them all last night, well the ones I picked for pies and stuff, and because I was tired I left them in a five gallon bucket of water with lemon juice over night. This morning I split up the apples, mixed them all with the apple pie filling...1/3 cup sugar, 1/3 cup brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of flour, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg and a small splash of lemon juice per 6-8 cups of sliced apples...put them all into Ziploc bags and they are now freezing. When I need a pie, I can take out the frozen pie filling, thaw it, toss it into a pie crust and bake. Easy as pie...sorry couldn't resist!
I think these contests are rigged...Janet has won two of your most recent poll/surveys/giveaway thingys. I demand a recount!
HOLY COW 150 LBS!!!!! NO WAY! That is crazy!!
And what a great idea Tiff to freeze a bag of apple pie filling! I love that! (could you send me some of those too please!) ; )
to Suz...NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NAAAAA!!! ; ) & i was still 75lbs off!
Well, now I think I might have to find some apples to freeze. Who knew they wouldn't get all mushy or anything weird?
