Jeff Foxworthy Would Be Proud

You might be a redneck if...you use a trampoline frame, chicken wire, deer netting, a tarp, some rope and a garden claw to build a chicken brooder/pen. I went to Stephanie's on Wednesday and helped her make this...

I helped her make that so it could hold these. 52 baby chicks, our first batch of chickens went really well but we only did 16, this time we are doing enough so that we don't have to do it again for quite a while. They hatched Wednesday morning and Steph got a call from the post office early this morning that they had arrived. If you go to her blog you can see a few different pictures and a video of what 52 chicks sound like (great for the kids!).

The kiddie pool will hold them close and huddled under the heat lamp for the first couple of days.

A mass of fluff! See that one already stretching and testing his wings?

Here is Sunshine, standing guard at the opening to the pen...good girl Sunny!

They will live in the trampoline chicken tractor until they get processed. The tractor Joel built is housing one of Stephanie's hens. She, for some reason keeps getting attacked by the other hens. She has a bald spot on the back of her head and because there are no feathers the chickens attack that spot over and over. So she lives in the tractor were they can't get to her. She's in the coop area with the other hens but has her own apartment.
